Content Calendars for Birth Centers, Midwives, and Doulas

We have blogged about the importance of content on multiple occasions, but for those of you who are new here (hello!), quality content is vital for marketing. Read all about content on our blog and get caught up with what you need to know! Now that you know what content is and why it is important, we want to talk to you about creating content calendars.
If you’re not taking the time to plan your social media calendar in advance, you could find yourself scrambling to find something to share. This is a big problem because sharing quality content across your social channels is one of the most important things you can do to engage your audience and attract new followers. We know as a doula, midwife, or birth center, you don’t always have time to sit down and post to social media every day! This is a good way to be prepared for those busy moments ahead of time!
Here are a few things to keep in mind when working on your content calendars:
  1. What does your audience like? Before you start sharing a bunch of things on social media, we suggest you take a look back in your social media history and see what your audience has liked the most. Check to see if there is a pattern in the posts that receive a lot of engagement, and then cater your future posts to that audience by posting similar things!
  2. Decide on a posting schedule. Are you going to post once a day? Are you going to post 3 times a week? Are you going to post every time there is a new birth? There are a lot of factors to consider, but have a plan in place before you start posting.
  3. Create or find a source for good content to share. Now comes the fun part! You either write content that you want to share, or you search online to find something worth sharing. You can also do a combination of both.
  4. Create a calendar. There are a lot of free sites to create a calendar (Google Calendar is a great one) or you can find a few free sites that will organize all of your content for you. We suggest picking one theme for the week and starting there. Here is a great example:
Theme: Staying Hydrated during pregnancy
Monday: Share a recipe for several kinds of infused flavored water
Tuesday: Personal video talking about the importance of drinking water (tell a story)
Wednesday: Blog post referencing medical studies about pregnant women and water consumption
Thursday: Do a Facebook LIVE and get people to talk about their favorite ways to infuse water or add water into their day
Friday: Share your favorite medical study about water consumption during pregnancy.
It can take time to set up an effective workflow for creating and posting social media content. The main idea is to plan far enough ahead and give yourself time to work everything out so that each post is thought-out and strategically aligned by the time it reaches your audience.
