How to Tell Your BRAND STORY

How to Tell Your Brand Story

Have you ever sat there and stared at a blank page watching the cursor pulse in beat with your anxious heart as you struggle to put words on the paper? Telling a story can be hard, incredibly daunting even. You want to get it right, but you aren’t sure how to do that exactly.

If you have experienced this, don’t beat yourself up over it! It happens to the best of us. In fact, it happened to me on this blog post until my ‘aha’ moment struck!

Your brand story is one of the most important stories you will ever have to tell. So the added pressure on this one, in particular, is warranted. But the good news is that I have some tips to help you tell the most compelling story for your brand!

A brand story conveys the history, purpose, and values of a business in a way that makes your audience feel connected to your brand.

In order for people to truly fall in love with your brand, that connection HAS to be there. That connection leads to brand loyalty, and brand loyalty leads to a successful business.

Storytelling is an amazing way to capture your audience’s attention and is one of the main reasons we LOVE content marketing so much at Marketing TEA. Content marketing is alllll about creating content that is valuable and personable to attract your audience’s attention instead of explicitly promoting a brand.

Here are the best ways to craft a compelling story that your audience will remember and connect with.

Spend time really finding out who YOU are.

This should always be your first step. You have to know who you are to know where you want to go. Besides, how can you tell a story about your brand if you don’t know the story you are trying to tell? A good rule of thumb for a good story is showing the conflict you are dealing with and how you are working to overcome it. Transparency about your adversity will go a long way!

Set a clear vision.

Once you have thought through who you are and the story you want to tell, it is time to set a path for how you are going to tell it so that you stay true to yourself and your brand. This is where content marketing really comes into play. Don’t try to sell people on your story. Instead, spend your time building up from the ground and telling a well-composed story that draws them in. A brand that is doing this well is SoulCycle. They built a large audience that believes in their mission about sharing a SOUL experience when they partake in their classes. The workout becomes an afterthought, and instead, the customers are connected to the emotion and sense of belonging that is promised when you take a class.

Choose the right format.

What good is an awesome brand story if you don’t know how to get it in front of the right eyes?  You have to find the right format that fits your story. We have talked about this before on the Socially Unstable Podcast. If you don’t pick the right format, it might distract from the story you are trying to tell. Here are some formats you might try!

  • Ebooks
  • Videos
  • Motion graphics
  • Short-lived content
  • Blog posts
  • Social Media
