We touched BRIEFLY on the concept of ‘content marketing’ in our latest Cup of TEA video, but NOW we want to tell you a little bit more about what we mean when we say that content marketing for doulas and midwives could change your business FOREVER. Here’s the basic idea: Content marketing is anything (ANYTHING!) that you create (like photos, videos, and text) and distribute through your delivery system (like your blog/website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) You get the idea. It’s anything that engages your community in a conversation about what it is that you do as a midwife, a doula, or a birth center pro.
Content marketing is RIDICULOUSLY important for a number of reasons, and because we LOVE lists we decided to break it down in list form for you:
- EDUCATION. I think we can all agree that education is the most important part of content marketing. The more content you put out, the better your chances of it being seen, and the higher the chance of EDUCATING someone. This is the part that makes all the hard work of producing content worth it. If ONE woman reads your content and chooses to learn more about her options for a natural birth, your content has done its job. If ONE woman who didn’t know anything about doulas, midwives, or natural births reads your content and learns more information; if she feels like she can make an educated decision, your content has done its job.
- SEO. We have written about SEO before and we will continue until we are blue in the face. SEO IS IMPORTANT. SEO is how people find you on the Internet. SEO will help bring traffic to your website. SEO SEO SEO! (Sorry, our heads just exploded a little) Search engines pick up the newest and most relevant content FIRST. Did you hear that? If your content is new and relevant it will rank higher on search engines. That means you need to be putting out new blog posts at LEAST twice a month and they need to be relevant to the keyword you are trying to gain traffic from. In other words, don’t write a blog post focused on delayed cord clamping if you are trying to gain traffic for placenta encapsulation. Make sure you focus your topic on what keyword you want people to be drawn in by.
- SELLING WITHOUT SELLING. – Casey here!- Selling without selling is my favorite topic. Probably because I hate when people try too hard to sell me things. Maybe that is why I like Instagram so much, because on Instagram, you use visuals and text to build your brand. When people become invested in your brand, you don’t HAVE to sell to them. When people are invested in your brand, they come to YOU. Do you know how you get people to become invested in your brand? Content. Sharing photos, videos, and stories help people connect with you on a deeper level. It is an incredible feeling when you don’t have to go out and sell – people come to you because they relate to you. AMAZING right?
