How to Come Up with Original Ideas for Your Content

Originality is the name of the game when it comes to literally ANYTHING in content: designs, captions, thoughts, styles, topics, and so on. Being original is the only way to stand out from the crowd and build a great reputation for yourself.

However, it can also feel challenging when you are constantly consuming other people’s content all the time. Seeing what others are doing, saying, and posting can make it feel like everything has been done and there are no new ideas to be had. We get it!

BUT we are here to tell you that is not the case. Try these tips the next time you are trying to come up with original ideas for your content!

Tips for Original Content Ideas

1. Think about your own experiences.

Something I like to do is make it personal! I find that this is a great way to actually create something that resonates with other people because if I am experiencing something or have questions that need to be answered then others probably do too.

For example, if you are running a local gym and are searching for blog or social topics, start by thinking of questions you would like answered if you were going to go to the gym for the first time. This could be something like, “How do I sign up?” “What happens in a class from start to finish?” or “What should I bring to class?”

2. Consume content outside of your typical realm.

A great way to spark a new idea is by looking in new places! Finding different books and inspiration can really help you come at your own content in a completely different way. I have found this to be true when creating content for Marketing TEA!

If I only look at other marketing thinkers, then it’s easy to fall into the same routine of saying what they are saying or doing, but if I research and learn about other specific businesses like health and wellness, then I can come to the marketing topics with a new health and wellness point of view.

3. Keep a running list.

Having a notes tab or a journal always handy can be a great way to jot your thoughts down and never lose a good topic again! Sometimes our best ideas come to us at the most random times. If you don’t write it down somewhere, it can be hard to pull that idea back out of your brain when you sit down to actually create said content and trust me there is nothing worse than that!

4. Take a mental break.

Last but not least, take a break from everything! It can be challenging to come up with your own thoughts and feelings about something when all you do is look at other people. It can be extremely beneficial to take some quiet time before creating anything to just sit with your own thoughts, develop your true take on a topic, and tell your story. There is nothing more original than thoughts from your own head!
